1951 – Up for boats, homeowners and all state waterways. The red flag on public docks meant that there was a hurricane coming. Get busy and prepare. Pass the hurricane warning on to your neighbors. There weren’t many phones around. Bailey’s General Store had a telegraph system for the visitors of Sanibel and Captiva Islands if the phones went out.
